If you’ve missed having tacos since giving up nightshades, don’t worry, I’ve got you.
I’ve been making nightshade free meals since 2018, and prefer not to sacrifice flavor to eat nightshade free.
There’s no denying the convenience of a taco packet, but you can’t just walk into the store and grab a nightshade free taco seasoning packet. What you can do is make a jar of seasoning to have on hand for busy weeknight tacos the whole family (even the nightshade eaters) can enjoy.
You’ll be surprised how much this seasoning tastes like nightshade inclusive taco packets. My whole family has enjoyed this recipe for years, and I’ve made it at family events with rave reviews.
You can complete your taco night with this nightshade free salsa. It’s a quick and tasty recipe, and you won’t be disappointed. It’s also delicious with tortilla chips.
Tacos are life. Not being able to have nightshades used to mean no tacos. No life. Keep a jar of this seasoning in your spice cabinet so it’s always it on hand for tacos and you won’t be disappointed.

Ingredient Notes
Make sure to use the freshest seasonings possible for the best flavor. This seasoning doesn’t include garlic powder because I like to use fresh garlic with my tacos.
Feel free to add garlic powder if you’d like.

How To Make Nightshade Free Taco Seasoning
This recipe is so easy! No special equipment or anything fancy needed here. This seasoning mix comes together with spices you likely already have on hand.
Just add the seasonings to a Mason jar, shake and store.

Serving Suggestions
Use this seasoning the same way you would use a taco seasoning packet.
Once your meat is cooked, add 2-3 tablespoons of nightshade free taco seasoning plus 1/3 cup of water per pound of meat. Bonus points for sauteing the meat with a chopped yellow onion and garlic for extra flavor, or making these simple nightshade free ground beef tacos.
Then load the meat in your favorite tortillas (I love these homemade cauliflower tortillas or Siete Almond Flour Tortillas), and top with your favorite toppings.
I’m experimenting with using this seasoning in a nightshade free chili recipe. I just haven’t gotten the base jussssttttt right yet. Stay tuned!

Sounds fab, can’t wait to try it! Is it cilantro seed or dried cilantro leaf for the recipe?
Hi Hazel, It’s the cilantro plant seed. You’ll want to use it ground as a powder. If you don’t have that on hand, the cilantro will probably also work great 🙂
How do I add a little ‘heat’ to my foods
Hi Char,
That’s always tricky. Horseradish, garlic, black pepper and ginger can help add a little heat to foods.
I’m currently on an elimination diet and already figuring out that nightshades are a problem for me. I used this taco mix tonight with my ground chicken and it was amazing!! Thank you! It will become a staple in my spice cabinet.
Thanks for your comment, Robyn! I’m so happy to hear that!
This recipe is the best!! My husband and granddaughter love it and won’t go back!!
Thank you Yvonne! We feel the same way in my family. 🙂
My daughter has nightshade sensitivity and this recipe pleases everybody in our family! Thanks for making life simple again on taco night.
This was delicious! My whole family enjoyed it. I just started trying to cut out onion because of the fodmaps. Do you think I could substitute some dried chives, or do you have another suggestion?
I love to hear that, Julie! I don’t know if dried chives would give the same flavor, but I think adding raw green onion tops (I believe those are low fodmap) would work.
I developed sensitivity to nightshades over the past few years and it has gotten so bad that it makes me violently ill. I’ve been hospitalized twice for it. This taco seasoning recipe is a lifesaver!!! It’s the perfect blend of spices, and it makes me feel like I’m eating regular taco seasoning except it’s even better. Thank you for creating this recipe!
I love to hear this seasoning is a lifesaver! I’m so sorry you’re so sensitive to nightshades. It’s certainty one of the tougher sensitivities.
